The Lithuanian PR&M Educational Initiative
At the
invitation of the University of Vilnius in Lithuania and Dr Alvydas
Juocevicius, Chief of Rehabilitation, DR. Mark A. Young MD of Baltimore,
Maryland was invited to share rehabilitation and knowledge with the
residents of the University residency training program.
Dr.
Young was also given the opportunity address the Lithuanian Parliament
and the Ministry of Health on the importance of rehabilitation for
people with disabilities. Dr. Young was joined by a group of speakers
from other New Europe countries, including Estonia and Latvia, as well
as internationally reknown doctors and
speakers from Norway and Portugal. The address, given to a
standing-room-only audience of doctors, politicians and government
officials, saw Dr. Young praise Lithuania for its remarkable advances in
neurological rehabilitation and assistive technology
since its Soviet independence.
Dr.
Young also reviewed medical procedures used in the United States, and
spoke of recent developments in technology,
computers,vocational rehabilitation
and the residency education process. Dr. Young related his personal
experience as a Physiatrist in Baltimore, Maryland dedicated to
Vocational Rehabilitation and Pain Management.
In
addition to the Parliament meeting and the series of educational
sessions with residents at the University of Vilnius, Dr. Young
addressesed a series of community groups
including the Lithuanian Arthritis Association.
